The sigla TIG corresponds to the initials of English words “Tungsten Inert Gas”, which indicates a weld in an atmosphere of inert gas and tungsten electrode.
The procedure TIG may be used in joints which require high Quality welding and weld metals are highly sensitive to oxidation (such as titanium and aluminum). However, its most frequent use is given in heat resistant steels, stainless steel and aluminum.
The major advantages of Process TIG come from the Stability and concentration of the arc; besides the fact that it is feasible to use in all positions and types of joints and good bead appearance (with soft and smooth finishes). This welding method is also characterized by the absence of splashing and slag (which prevents subsequent cleaning jobs) and its applicability to thin thicknesses (from 0,3 mm for all lengths).
Importantly, the welding TIG can be used with or without filler.
