martensitic

Are essentially alloys of chromium and carbon whose main characteristic is their ability to increase its mechanical strength and hardness by heat treatment that produces martensite. The chromium content is normally between 10,5% and 18% and the carbon is high, reaching values of up 1,2%. The contents of Cr and C is balanced to ensure the formation of the martensitic structure during heat treatment.
Fueron los primeros que se desarrollaron industrialmente y representan una parte de la Series AISI 400. Its features are as follows:
• Moderate corrosion resistance
• are hardenable by heat treatment and therefore can develop high levels of mechanical strength and hardness.
• They are magnetic.
• Due to the high carbon content and the nature of its hardness, weldability is poor.
