Galvanic corrosion

All stainless steels are susceptible to this type of corrosion is caused by the contact of two metals of different oxidation potential that are in contact in a corrosive environment. As a highly corrosion resistant metal, the stainless steel can act as a cathode when it is in contact with a less noble material, generating an electrolytic phenomenon that damages the surface of the stainless steel.
